Hey, I'm Meera!
I'm happy to have you here. Allow me to tell you a little about myself.
My Background
Let me take you on a tour of Gobichettipalayam, a thriving town in the beautiful state of Tamilnadu. This is the beginning of my story. I graduated from PKR Arts College in Maths, located in the center of my hometown. Do you believe it? In a tiny town like mine, a Mathematics degree! People were surprised and taken aback.
Then I moved to Coimbatore to pursue my master's degree in Applied Mathematics at PSG College of Technology. I began working as a math educator in 2003. My decision to study math shocked people because they assumed it was just for naturally gifted people. Many people believed that talent could get 88% overall. But my story is unique. I wonder if I was born with a natural ability for math.
Still, the people around me shaped me, particularly my mother and teachers. They always complimented my small achievements and spoke highly of my performance.
How Was I Shaped?
My mother loved to tell a specific story that still makes me smile when I recall my early years. It was the anniversary of my great-grandfather's death, and I had an exam for math at school. Many kids would have skipped school today, but not me. I was determined not to fail that exam. I recall my mom telling me that I was crying and refusing to go home.
So I went to school, my mind set on the test. When I got home, I happily showed my mother my score—a perfect 100/100 on the slate. She told me this particular story multiple times, which made a permanent mark on me.
It made me believe I was an intelligent student who worked hard and was fairly brilliant at math. Even if it was a made-up story by my mother, it greatly impacted how I felt.
From that day onward, my goal was to create similar happy experiences and mindsets in my students when studying Math and achieving success. I wanted kids to believe that they, too, could achieve and overcome any obstacles.
Another example that sticks out in my mind is one related to the value of education. Even though I attended a Tamil-language school, my mother took the risk of enrolling me in postal-spoken English classes. It was a course of one year in which we got books to help us improve our English aptitude every week. My mother insisted that learning in Tamil wouldn't limit us and that we could learn anything when we worked hard.
My grandma also had an impact on how much I loved to read. She enjoyed reading articles in a magazine and Tamil literature. She would often invite me to read an article she found interesting. Because of her, I got a reading habit, which opened up new areas of knowledge and creativity.
I was lucky to have outstanding teachers during my college years. One teacher, in particular, made a lasting impact on me. Her name was Sasi Prabha Madam from PKR College. She worked in the commerce department. She came into my class once to give us some moral advice.
Her speech that day drastically changed my outlook on life. She spoke passionately about the value of personal development in achieving overall improvement.
It was the first time I'd heard anyone discuss this idea, and it sowed a seed for reflection in my head.
About Work Life
When I started teaching, I immediately understood that knowing students' psychology was important. However, my first three years as a teacher were quite difficult. I had a feeling there was something I had to learn, yet I couldn't put my finger on it.
I moved to the United Kingdom to further my education but could not complete it. Back in India, I continued teaching but quickly recognized that I needed to improve my skills.
That's when I became interested in personal development, learning behavioral science and psychology to assist my students better. In 2014, I discovered NLP, which taught me how to teach and train children successfully.
Using NLP methods with engineering students in Pune resulted in significant benefits. After two years of teaching mathematics, I took a risk and resigned to launch my coaching and training business.
My Ventures
During my teaching career, I created a brand named Success Programming to help students to successful jobs. In Pune, I worked with the Lila Poonawalla Foundation to teach female students to be leaders. Since 2016, I've been doing training courses for the foundation that align with its goals.
In 2019, I earned international certification as an NLP trainer, improving my knowledge. When the Covid-19 outbreak hit, I had to adjust and switch to online teaching. This resulted in the establishment of the Students Success Hub around 2021.
I've been supporting college students to gain the required skills to achieve their goals, such as passing public service tests, continuing higher education at famous universities, or working for big corporate firms using the Students Success Hub. Many students struggle with mathematics, impacting their performance in competitive tests and even engineering degrees.
As a result of this, I created RaPa for Math Confidence. I want to support students in fighting math anxiety, achieving math confidence, and improving their abilities from a young age, especially in 8th or 9th grade, since I understand the importance of a solid foundation in mathematics. I help students shape their mindsets and prepare them for effective careers using strategies from NLP and my years of experience.
My Mission
Join me on a journey to end the global crisis of math anxiety! Together, we can give children the math confidence and knowledge they need to succeed in school, their careers, and life. Say goodbye to anxiety, and welcome to a universe where math is exciting yet manageable!
